Vardenafil is a drug that is used to address difficulties with male sexual function (impotence or erectile dysfunction-ED). Vardenafil, when used alongside sexual stimulation, assists a man in achieving and maintaining an erection by enhancing blood flow to the penis. This medication most definitely will not protect you from sexually transmitted infections (such as HIV and syphilis).

How it works?

The release of nitric oxide (NO) in the corpus cavernosum is a part of the physiological process of erection. This causes the enzyme guanylate cyclase to be activated, resulting in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum, which in turn, causes smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow, resulting in an erection.

Vardenafil is a powerful and selective inhibitor of the cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) enzyme in the corpus cavernosum, which is solely responsible for cGMP breakdown. This suggests that when this drug is taken into account, typical sexual stimulation causes a rise in cGMP levels in the corpus cavernosum, resulting in better erections.

How to administer Vardenafil?

Vardenafil is available as a tablet and a quickly dissolving (dissolves in the mouth and is ingested without water) tablet for oral use. It is commonly given 60 minutes before sexual activity, with or without food, as needed. This medicine should not be taken more than once per 24 hours in most cases.

Your doctor may advise you to take this less frequently if you have certain health concerns or are using certain drugs. Follow the directions depicted on your prescription label carefully, and should there be anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain it to you. Do not take more or less of what is prescribed, or take it more often than your doctor has suggested.

Check the blister pack before taking your first dose if you’re taking a quickly disintegrating tablet. If any of the blisters are torn, broken, or do not contain tablets, do not use any of the medication from the pack. Follow the packaging guidelines to remove the tablet from the blister packing. Do not try to push the tablet through the foil. Place the tablet on your tongue and seal your mouth as soon as you remove it from the blister container. The tablet will disintegrate fast. Water or other liquids should not be mixed with the quickly disintegrating tablet.

Precautions while taking Vardenafil

It is recommended that you inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to vardenafil or if you have any other allergies before taking it. Inactive chemicals may be in this product, which may cause allergic reactions or other complications.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist on your medical history, especially if you have had a life threatening irregular heartbeat or heart attack in the last 6 months, chest pain/angina, or heart failure, or if you have had a stroke in the previous 6 months, kidney disease (dialysis), liver disease, high or low blood pressure, or a severe dehydration, history of painful/protracted erection and other allied disorders.

Unless your doctor or pharmacist prescribes you to eat grapefruit, it is recommended that you avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medication. Grapefruit can make this drug more likely to cause negative effects.

If you are also taking a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, such as isosorbide dinitrate, nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, or some recreational drugs, do not take this medicine. Taking vardenafil with a nitrate medication can result in a sudden and severe drop in blood pressure.
